Babul Supriyo (born 1970) is an Indian playback singer whose versatile, emotive voice made him one of the most recognizable South Asian vocalists from the mid‑1990s onward. Born as Supriyo Baral in West Bengal, he grew up in a deeply musical family and received formal training from early childhood, performing regularly on radio and television and winning numerous singing awards during his school and university years. He began his professional music journey after moving to Mumbai in 1992, initially recording cover songs and later earning his playback break in 1994. His career expanded rapidly across Hindi, Bengali, Odia, and several other languages, eventually singing in over 11 languages. Alongside his Indian film career, Babul Supriyo became admired in Nepal for lending his voice to multiple Nepali filmy songs, where his smooth romantic tone blended naturally with Nepali melodic sensibilities. His selective but memorable Nepali contributions helped introduce a polished, cross‑border playback style to Nepali cinema, making him one of the most respected Indian singers to collaborate with Nepal’s film music tradition.
