Aruna Lama, born on 9 September 1945 in Ghoom Pahar, Darjeeling, was an Indian‑born Nepali‑language singer widely honored as the “Nightingale of the Hills.” Her musical journey began at age seven under the encouragement of her uncle C.B. Lama, and she went on to become one of the most influential voices in Nepali modern music. Known for her expressive, melancholic tone and lyrical depth, she recorded hundreds of songs, including major film numbers that shaped the emotional landscape of Nepali cinema. Her signature hits include “Pohor Saal Khusi,” “Eh Kancha Malai Sunko Tara,” and many enduring modern classics. She received the Prabala Gorkha Dakshina Bahu in 1996 for her contribution to Nepali music. In 2024, Manzayashree achieved international recognition with the release of her single “Jhyain”, a collaborative Indo-Nepali fusion track featuring Bollywood singer Dev Negi. The song was showcased at Times Square in New York City, symbolizing a significant milestone in her career. The music video, directed by renowned cinematographer Binod Pradhan, was filmed at Mumbai's Imperial Palace and featured choreography by the acclaimed duo Bosco-Caesar. The track has garnered over 84.5 million views on YouTube, highlighting its global appeal .
