Ram Prasad Khanal

Tulasi Parajuli was born on June 23, 1972, in Dadha Bazaar, Dhankuta, Nepal, to Makar Nanda Parajuli and Tika Devi Parajuli. As the eldest son, he spent his childhood in Dhankuta, where his mischievous nature often led him to skip classes in favor of attending cultural programs. His academic journey took him from Bhanu Secondary School for his SLC, to Dharan for his Intermediate certificates, and finally to Patan Campus, where he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nepali at R R College, Kathmandu. Entry into the Music Scene Parajuli’s passion for music was ignited by listening to songs on Radio Nepal, inspiring him to emulate the singers he admired. His enthusiasm for cultural events grew stronger when he moved to Dharan for further studies, leading him to participate more actively in musical programs. He eventually formed the band Jhankar, performing across major towns in Eastern Nepal. Work and Contributions Parajuli continues to be an influential figure in Nepali folk music. In 2024, he released a new song, "Musukkai Hasi", which has been well received. He also performed a solo evening featuring over a dozen songs in support of cancer and kidney patients, blending music with philanthropy. Beyond Music Apart from his musical career, Parajuli is dedicated to education. He serves as a Nepali teacher at Nobel Academy and teaches music at Nobel, Preston, and Annapurna College. He also manages Sangeet Sadhana Private Limited, a music school he founded to foster a strong learning environment for aspiring musicians. Additionally, he has been involved in hosting 'Lok Bhaka', a program for a UK-based Nepali television channel. Tulasi Parajuli remains a respected name in Nepali music, continuously evolving while staying true to his folk roots. His journey is a testament to perseverance, passion, and the power of music to inspire and uplift.

Jayananda Lama (1956–2020) was a respected Nepali singer, actor, and cultural contributor known for his powerful folk‑based vocal style and memorable performances in Nepali cinema. A graduate of Lalit Kala Campus and an advocate of Nepali folk heritage, he recorded numerous hit songs and appeared in several films, earning recognition for his natural acting and deep musical understanding. His work blended authenticity, humor, and cultural storytelling, making him one of the beloved figures in Nepali performing arts.

Padam Bista was a respected Nepali folk singer and a Nepal Police officer known for his dedication to preserving Nepal’s diverse musical heritage. A prominent figure of the cassette and Radio Nepal era, he traveled across regions, learning, collecting, and performing traditional melodies. He collected songs from Eastern Nepal to Western Nepal and helped preserve them in the treasury of Nepali folk music. His voice carried everything from eastern melodies to Tamang selo and western jhyaure songs. His powerful, earthy vocal tone and his ability to represent multiple regional styles made him a beloved figure among folk‑song listeners. Through stage performances, police cultural programs, and analog recordings, he brought rural stories and musical traditions to a national audience. Although digital records of his work are limited today, his songs continue to be remembered with respect and nostalgia by those who grew up listening to him.

Sharmila Gurung is a senior Nepali folk and dohori singer known for her powerful, earthy vocal style and her mastery of traditional genres such as salaijo, kauda, roila, and lok‑dohori. Born in Syangja, Iladi, she began her musical journey after passing the Radio Nepal vocal test in 2056 BS, recording her first song “Nilo Pachauri”, which became a widely recognized hit of its time.Over the years, Sharmila has recorded over 1,000 folk songs, including enduring favorites such as “Ballai Bho Bheta,” “Kali Ganga Taren,” “Farka Muglani,” “Rani Ghataima,” and numerous salaijo and Gurung cultural songs. She has also released her solo album Gahana, showcasing her versatility across Nepali folk traditions.Sharmila is celebrated for her national and international stage presence, performing across the UK, Japan, Belgium, Singapore, Brunei, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Korea, Bahrain, Qatar, Portugal, and India.
