Master Mitrasen Thapa Magar (1895–1946) was a pioneering Nepali folk singer, dramatist, social reformer, and cultural ambassador whose work laid the foundation for organized Nepali folk performance. Born in Bhagsu, Dharamshala, he served in the Gurkha Regiment before dedicating his life to music, theatre, and community upliftment. Yasoda Parajuli (Kharel), born in Ashoj 2026 BS in Manipur, India, comes from a musical family. Her father, Chudamani Kharel, was a talented singer, although not a professional, and her mother, Bhima Kharel, was a dedicated housewife. Yasoda grew up alongside five siblings, spending most of her childhood and adult years in India. Despite the lack of formal music training in her early years, she developed a strong passion for music. Yasoda completed her schooling at Kangla Napongdi High School in Manipur and also completed her inter-level studies there. From an early age, she was deeply immersed in classical music and participated in various local programs, showcasing her budding musical talent. Before moving to Nepal, she contributed her voice to several Manipuri films, gaining recognition in the regional music scene. In 2048 BS, Yasoda moved to Kathmandu, Nepal, where she quickly became a part of the local music scene. She began singing live performances on Radio Nepal, focusing on classical songs. Her breakthrough moment came in the same year when she recorded her first song, "Din Dhalyo Andheri Raat Maa," which became an instant hit and established her as a household name in Nepali music. Following this success, Yasoda continued to build her career, contributing her voice to numerous albums. In 2049 BS, Yasoda married Ganesh Parajuli, a fellow musician and singer. Together, they released three duet albums: "Gaunko Maya," "Yugal," and "Saha Yatra," which were well-received by the public. For several years, they lived in Hong Kong, where they continued to perform and share their musical journey. Now back in Nepal, Yasoda is planning a new musical venture, hoping for continued love and support from her fans.
